CMP is the newest facility in Canada. It's an Alan Wilson designed track that opened to track days in October 2006. The setting and layout is spectacular, with moderate elevation changes, lots of blind corners, and long, double apex corners. The track is flowing and very technical. The pavement is in pristine condition, and is expected to stay this way for a while. No high powered, high downforce cars will be allowed on the circuit, so pavement damage from these types of cars will not happen.
The track was designed with cars in mind, so some safety ascpets may cause motorcyclists to be concerned. A few of the corners have closely placed walls and berms, and run-off in some corners is limited. This may rule out motorcycle competition in the future (unless changes are made), but track day riders should feel comfortable here.
Noise Concerns: Local residents are concerned about the noise levels at CMP, so the track management closely monitors decibel levels of all vehicles. The nominal noise limit is 95 dB, but this seems to vary upon the type of vehicle being tested. In October 2006, we saw at least three motorcycles be pulled from the track; an SV650, an EX500, and a Vintage bike for excessive noise. If you are not sure about legality of your bike, be sure to bring along a quieter (ie. street legal) exhaust.
But, despite the safety and noise concerns, CMP is a truly awesome track; one that should not be missed by any track day participant.
Accommodations can be found close by in the town of Calabogie, although the number of rooms is limited. Hotels and motels can also be found in Renfrew and Perth.
